The concept of the promenade painting FRAMING is based on the size and rhythm of the concrete plates building the pathway. Frames of three different colours (White, Orange, Black) are painted onto the pathway, repeating the process several times in the same order. Each colour frame is ending at the edge of the following concrete plate. The size of each concrete plate is defining the size of each frame on all four sides, creating a slightly irregular image of the frames. The inner parts of all concrete plates remain unpainted, therefore the visible plain concrete surface is integrated in the flow of the ‘frame chain‘, becoming an equal part of the design on the pathway. Seen in perspective when standing on the pathway, FRAMING appears as a rhythm of converging frames creatilayfully integrated image of visual depth along the pathway for the pedestrians, within the other collaborative paintings made by all local, national and international AC4CA members.
AC4CA - ORANGE PATH, 2021
ORANGE PATH is a painted ground plane artwork created by thirteen leading Australian and International Artists connected to the AC4CA collective. This 500m long walkable artwork spans the pathway between the two bridges (Old Traffic Bridge and Stirling Bridge). The work is commissioned by the Fremantle Biennale as part of the 2021 program titled CROSSING in partnership with the City of Fremantle and the Town of East Fremantle. Launched to coincide with the opening of the 2021 Biennale, the artwork is designed as a legacy artwork to stay in place permanently.
A limited edition of artists prints of the same design are produced to accompany the ground plane artwork. The sale of the prints will fund the fabrication of ORANGE PATH. The prints can be purchased as a limited box set of 25 containing each of the 13 x prints, or as individual (unframed) prints. Each design is limited to three colours including a specific orange in homage to the late AC4CA member, John Nixon.
